Flu Vaccinations

Annual vaccination is the most effective way of preventing serious illness associated with influenza (flu) infection.

We offer regular flu vaccination clinics every year, usually from mid September onwards. If you are eligible, we will invite you for this. It is helpful if we have an up to date mobile telephone number, as this allows us to invite you by text message.

Flu vaccines are recommended and offered free of charge to certain groups of people, including those at higher risk of becoming seriously ill from flu. This includes:

  • Older people (e.g. over 50 in 2022-2023 season)
  • People with certain health conditions
  • People who are pregnant
  • People who live in residential care homes
  • People who care for somebody else
  • People who live with somebody who is immunosuppressed
  • Children – please see Childhood Immunisations page

For further information, please call reception or see the NHS website.

Maternity Services and Baby Health Checks

If you are, or think you might be pregnant, please let us know and we can provide advice and direct you to the appropriate services.

Pregnant patients will be referred to the midwife for an appointment at Engleton House Surgery in the first trimester (within the first 12 weeks) of their pregnancy. Development checks are carried out in the baby clinic with the doctor at 8 weeks. New babies will receive an invitation letter for a GP health examination and their first immunisations at 8 weeks old.

Disease Monitoring

Patients with certain long-term conditions are offered an appointment with a nurse every year for a review. These reviews are to monitor your condition, help you manage your condition and ensure that you have the most appropriate support or treatment.

If you have any concerns about your condition at any other time, please contact reception for an appointment and do not wait for your annual review.

All patients with the following conditions will be offered an annual review appointment with the nurse:

  • Asthma
  • COPD
  • Dementia
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Heart Disease (CHD)
  • Hypertension

Childhood Immunisations

Vaccination is the most effective way of protecting your child from infectious diseases.

Please book an appointment with one of our nurses for your child to have their vaccinations. All of these vaccinations are free of charge.

If you have any questions about immunisation or think your child may have missed any of their vaccinations, our nurses are very happy to provide advice.

If you are registering your child at the surgery after moving from outside the UK, please provide us with a record of the immunisations your child has already had. This helps us maintain accurate records and invite them for immunisations if needed.

For further information about childhood immunisations, please speak to one of our nurses or see the NHS website.
